Rowley Regis saucy snap couple were disrespectful, say Express & Star readers

Voters in an online poll overwhelmingly stated Matthew and Carly Lunn, from Rowley Regis, should not have taken the picture outside St Pauls Bay Chapel on Rhodes, which caused a storm on the holiday island.

A total of 83 per cent of 2,700 voters said they thought the newlyweds were disrespectful.

The X-rated snap, said to have been taken as a joke, went viral online and caught the attention of officials in Rhodes, who were not impressed and enforced a wedding ban.

They said the act was disrespectful at a site of religious and cultural significance.

The photo showed Carly, 34, simulating a sex act on her new husband Matthew, 27.

The pair have faced a major backlash from other couples due to marry at the picturesque chapel, who fear their wedding plans could be left in tatters.

There were mixed views among Express & Star readers online, with many posting their views on the couple's antics.

Mac Harris said: "It’s not having a laugh, it’s contemptible and disrespectful behaviour.

"The answer is easy, before we even leave our country why can’t people just learn about and to have respect and abide by the culture, the history and the beliefs of those people in countries we visit and holiday in. It’s about respect."

Mitchell Evans agreed, saying: "When you go to a foreign country you show respect to the people and their culture, and funny or not you should not disrespect the church."

However, Cheryll Blewitt defended the under-fire pair.

She said: "I’m sure that this couple were just enjoying their big day with a bit of a laugh, not expecting such consequences.

"I feel sorry for them. This couple must feel deeply embarrassed and upset that others' weddings are no longer going ahead. I think the world is a terrible place and worse things happen every day."

Matthew and Carly have defended their actions, insisting the photo was meant as a joke and that the situation has been 'blown out of proportion'.
