Firefighters tackle blaze at Great Barr home

Almost 20 firefighters were called out to tackle a house fire in Great Barr.

Crews from Perry Barr, Erdington, Handsworth and Aston were scrambled to the scene in Birkenshaw Road after reports of a fire in the roof of a home.

Firefighters managed to prevent the fire from spreading to other houses at around 2.40am on Saturday.

Perry Barr fire station tweeted: "White watch attended this house fire in the early hours of this morning with Erdington, Handsworth and Aston [crews].

"Assertive firefighting prevented spread to neighbouring houses.

"Test your smoke alarms today you never know when you might need them."

No one was injured during the blaze, the fire service said.

It is not yet known how the fire started.
