Driver faced rising flood water after the main burst this morning in Chapel Lane, in Great Barr.

The road may be partially closed for up to four days due to repair work.

Giant plumes of water were filmed shooting into the air on the well-used route heading towards Barr Beacon.

The lane is also close to Birmingham Road near to junction 7 of the M6.

The road was flooded with only single file traffic making it through.

Stephen Fairburn took to Facebook to share footage, saying: "Avoid Chapel Lane, burst water main."

Engineers from utilities company South Staffs Water have been working to fix the pipe today.

A spokesperson said: "The burst water main on Chapel Lane in Great Barr has now been repaired and no customers are currently off supply but some may experience water discolouration.

"Traffic management is in place and the road will be closed for 3 to 4 days, while the damage is being repaired.

"We apologise for any inconvenience and ask you for your patience while we deal with the situation."
