The train, which had been privately hired for a trip from Newport to Scarborough, broke down in the Sandwell borough about two miles away from Halesowen at 8.30am.

It stopped moving after a loss of power and was blocking the line from Stourbridge towards Snow Hill in Birmingham for most of the morning.

While it has since now been moved from the line, disruption is expected on the Snow Hill line until about 2pm due to displaced trains and crew.

Fans travelling by train to the Hawthorns later today for the West Brom vs Liverpool game are urged to add extra time to their journey or make alternative arrangements.

West Midlands Railway has issued their 'sincere apologies' to anyone affected.
