The cat had to be treated by a vet but was not seriously hurt after it was shot with an air rifle on Wednesday.

The incident is believed to have happened in either Belle Vue or Ashwood Avenue, parallel roads in Wordsley, shortly before 2pm.

The local RSPCA branch urged other cat owners to stay on their guard.

A post of the RSPCA Stourbridge and District branch's Facebook page said: "Update – a neighbour heard what she thinks was the shot at 1.55pm so it was in daylight hours.

"We have had a report that a cat has been shot with a pellet gun/air rifle in the Belle Vue/Ashwood Avenue area of Wordsley.

"Fortunately, the cat wasn't seriously hurt by required vet treatment."
