West Midlands mayor welcomes sale of Stourbridge College site
The mayor of the West Midlands Andy Street has welcomed the sale of the former Stourbridge College site to Old Swinford Hospital.
Mr Street said he worked behind the scenes to help facilitate the sale and kept the pressure on both Old Swinford Hospital and BMet to figure out a deal negotiations.
The mayor said: “We were all disappointed when it became clear that Stourbridge College had to close, leaving students and staff unsure of what the future would hold.
"I was clear that we needed a practical solution which ensured that the staff and students of the college could continue with their work and their studies.
"As a landmark in Stourbridge it was important that we managed to secure the site for educational purposes and that it was not lost to housing or other potential uses.
"The transfer of students and staff to both Dudley and Halesowen colleges was secured some time ago, and I am now delighted that the college site has been sold to an education provider, avoiding a bad situation.
"This is a positive outcome and I am pleased that Old Swinford Hospital school has committed to continuing education at the Hagley Road site.
"There’s plenty more work to be done, and I will be working with both Old Swinford Hospital and other local education providers to make sure the need for adult education and skills training is met in Stourbridge."
