Mitzi, from Dudley, won the Pets at Home cutest dog competition

A photograph of Mitzi in bed at Beverley Mason and Wayne Hodgkins’ home in Netherton beat 647 entries in a Pets at Home contest.

Handyman Mr Hodgkins said: “I couldn’t believe it, considering the amount of people who had taken part. Ninety per cent of the pictures were of dogs.”

Mr Hodgkins found out that Mitzi had won the competition after a friend, Rachel Pallant, shared a post on Facebook by the company.

The prize for first place was a £20 gift voucher to use in store, with a £10 voucher being awarded to the runner-up, a rabbit named Tina.

“I wanted to put her into a competition for some time,” Mr Hodgkins said, before joking about how he had found out the good news: “If it wasn’t for Rachel tagging me in the post, I wouldn’t have found out.”

Mitzi was a 40th birthday present for Miss Mason. As a puppy, she was originally owned by one of her cousins.

“She’s not just a dog; she’s part of the family,” Mr Hodgkins said. “Everywhere we go, she goes.”
