Four arrested after a gun, batons and a metal bar are used in night of chaos in Netherton

People armed with batons attacked a car before gun shots were fired after a woman was attacked with a metal bar in what was a night of chaos in the Black Country.

The disorder, which has left four people in police custody, took place in Lodge Crescent Netherton just after 8pm yesterday.

Police originally responded to reports of armed with batons attacking the occupants of a car in Lodge Crescent. This was followed by further reports of gunshots and sightings of a firearm.

Officers believe the attack was in relation to an earlier incident where a 36-year-old woman had been assaulted with a metal bar resulting in a minor head injury.

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Police said: "A 39-year-old woman and a 15-year-old girl have been arrested on suspicion of assault and remain in custody.

"Police patrols were increased in the area overnight and this morning two men, aged 30 and 33, have been arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm.

"The 33-year-old had sustained a broken ankle and has been taken to hospital for treatment.

"Inquiries are on-going and anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
