Shocked residents and passers-by were stunned to see the glow from the blaze on Wednesday night.

The fire took hold in a recently harvested corn field off the A449 Kidderminster Road at around 9.20pm.

Smoke billowed into the sky as the dry land was quickly enveloped by the ferocious flames.

Three fire crews from Brierley Hill and Dudley stations were called to tackle the blaze.

They used hoses to begin to surround the flames before working to quell the fire.

People stood nearby watching the blaze with footage shared across social media.

Five 999 calls were made to West Midlands Fire Service with bystanders shocked at the sight of the flames.

The fire took place on land close to the junction with Lodge Lane near Summerhill School.

Firefighters were quickly able to bring the blaze under control which covered an area of around 328ft by 328ft (100m by 100m).

They contacted a horse owner to move their animal from a nearby field during the blaze.

Watch commander Tom Edwards, of Brierley Hill fire station, said: "It was a large corn field which had recently been cut back and left as stubble.

"It was very, very dry and it had gone up quickly I believe. It was quite windy too.

"There were a lot of people watching nearby."

He added the farmer was at the scene and it is thought there is little financial loss due to the blaze.

The blaze was extinguished by 10.15pm.
