Hollie and her family have expressed their gratitude to MAC Surfacing and Midlands Quarry products

Ten-year-old Hollie Flatman, from Dudley, suffers from Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), a debilitating condition and her parents were left stunned by the news that Hollie would not be getting the funding for a new, fully equipped wheelchair, something Hollie would need to help her support her independence.

As the family had worked to raise tens of thousands of pounds for SMA charities, members of the local community set up a crowd-funding page and raised the £18,000 needed for a new wheelchair through the page and various fundraising events.

MAC Surfacing and Midlands Quarry products collaborated together to lay a new driveway

At the same time, local businesses MAC Surfacing and Midlands Quarry Products worked together to provide the Flatman family with a brand new driveway at their home with all groups and team members doing the work free of charge.

Donna Bremner from Highgrove Developments, who led the work on the driveway, said the family wanted to thank everyone who had given their time and money to help Hollie.

She said: “This was a wonderful early Christmas present for both Hollie and her family and is a wonderful example of how local people and businesses have come together to support a local family.

"The family have been totally overwhelmed by the kindness of local people and business and cannot thank people enough for everything that has been done to support Hollie.”
