Busy road in Lye still closed after collapsed pipe

A busy Stourbridge high street which had to close after a sewer pipe collapsed is still shut to traffic – as workers continue to tackle the damage.

The road will be shut until the weekend

A temporary road closure was put in place in High Street, in Lye, last Thursday (December 5) as Severn Trent Water worked to repair the pipe.

The water company apologised to people living and working in the area for the disruption.

A spokesman said the road would be back open as quickly as possible, but has since said it would stay closed until the weekend due to the damage being worse than they originally thought.

David Lavender, at Severn Trent Water, said: "We’re really grateful for everyone’s continued patience while we work hard to repair a collapsed sewer pipe on the High Street, Lye.

"The extent of the damage is much bigger than we had initially thought, which is why we’re still working in the road, with the closure remaining in place.

"If everything goes to plan, we’re hoping to finish replacing this bit of pipe and return the road back to normal by the weekend."
