Hundreds of people have come forward to find a match for a stem cell transplant for a Dudley youngster with leukaemia.

Little Phoebe Ashfield in an appeal on her mother's Facebook

Residents from across the Black Country descended on Tipton Sports Academy and at a Tesco Extra in Dudley to be swabbed on Saturday to see if they were a match to save little Phoebe Ashfield's life.

Phoebe, aged one, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia when she was just seven-months-old.

Her mother, Emma Wyke, from Gornal, posted an appeal online which has so far been shared more than 2,000 times asking for people to join the donor list.

She said: "This is something I don’t usually do but I’m asking for people’s help.

"My little girl needs a stem cell transplant to save her life as me and her dad have just found out that the leukaemia is back and is more aggressive and the only way she can fight it is having a transplant now.

"Now me and her dad are only 50 per cent match so we are now relying on a stranger to save our daughters life.

"I’m not asking for much all I’m asking for is to join the donor list so if you are age between 16 to 30 sign up to the Anthony Nolan all they do is send a pack out swab your mouth send the pack back and done.

"If you are 30 plus then go to dkms and they do the same, please please please help save my little girls life.

"She is only one, she has her whole life ahead of her. I can’t loose my little girl."

In the post Ms Wyke said that chemotherapy is not working now.

She added: "Chemotherapy isn't working so now they need to sit the team of consultants down and work out the next plan.

"If you don't save my daughter's life you could save someone else's child.

"Right now we are devastated but we will get her through this."

More than 600 people have commented on the post since it was shared on June 7.
