The Conservatives took back control of the authority from Labour, after a closely-fought battle at the local elections.

The Tories and Labour were left with 36 seats each – but it was enough for the Conservatives to regain power in the borough thanks to the crucial vote of the mayor.

It meant Councillor Harley returned to his role as leader of the council – less than a year after Labour took back control.

Councillor Harley has named Councillor David Vickers as deputy leader, Councillor Nicolas Barlow as cabinet member for health and adult social care, Councillor Ruth Buttery is responsible for children and young people and Councillor Simon Phipps is cabinet member for procurement, transformation and commercialisation.

Councillors Karen Shakespeare, Steve Clark and Laura Taylor return to their roles as cabinet members for environment, highways and street services; finance and legal services; and housing, communities and residents welfare; respectively.

Councillor Angus Lees is responsible for the West Midlands Combined Authority and Councillor Ian Kettle cabinet member for regeneration and enterprise.

Labour’s Councillor Qadar Zada is leader of the opposition, with Councillor Judy Foster as deputy leader.
