Woman dies after falling ill at Tesco supermarket car park

A woman died after being taken ill in the car park of a Tesco supermarket.

The woman fell ill in the car park of Tesco Extra off Birmingham New Road, in Dudley, on Saturday.

First aiders at the store called the emergency services and helped the patient by administering CPR.

A Tesco spokesman said: "We are deeply saddened by the death of a lady in our Dudley store car park and send our condolences to her family and friends."

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance service added: "We were called to the car park underneath Tesco, off Birmingham Road, at around 1.10pm on Saturday to reports of an elderly lady in cardiac arrest.

"Three first aiders from the store were at the scene doing CPR.

"When we arrived we took over providing advanced life support and the lady was taken on blue lights to Russells Hall Hospital, in Dudley.

"We sent two ambulances, a paramedic support officer and the Midlands Air Ambulance critical care care to the scene."

Staff are being provided with appropriate support, a Tesco spokesman said.

It is believed the woman died from natural causes.
