PC Ian Fortey was on duty for Remembrance Day in Kinver on November 11 when he witnessed a man collapse on the High Street.

PCSO Paula Wilkes assisted PC Fortey in initially attending to the man and calling for an ambulance.

PC Fortey, from Staffordshire Police, remained at the man's side – performing CPR with assistance from a retired police officer and colleagues from the fire service until ambulance staff arrived on scene.

The man was taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital where he is now recovering after treatment.

The family of the man, who has not been named, contacted Staffordshire Police and expressed their gratitude to everyone who had helped him.

Chief Inspector Mark Ward, Commander for South Staffordshire, said: "All officers are trained in giving first aid and this shows just how important that skill can be when they are out in the community.

“Prompt action by PC Fortey helped to save this man’s life. He showed amazing strength of character and I am really proud of the efforts of everyone involved.”

Following the incident, PC Fortey continued his duties at the service, laying a wreath on behalf of Staffordshire Police.
