Managers from the Caves pub in Wren's Nest, Dudley, will be brought before councillors after concerns were raised by officers. An alleged serious incident outside the pub, which is being investigated by police, is thought to be linked to the review.

Licensing chiefs in Dudley will oversee the review at a meeting expected to be held in the coming months. West Midlands Police confirmed it had called the review and that it was investigating an incident believed to have happened at the pub.

The force said it could not disclose details of the incident as it was still being investigated.

Councillors have the power to revoke the pub's licence or they could opt to tighten conditions, which could include more stringent controls around the operation of CCTV cameras.

The pub's manager Rav Singh said he was not aware of any serious incidents at the pub and was confident no action would be taken at the hearing. He insisted there had been no trouble at the pub since he took charge three years ago.

Mr Singh said: "They just want to review the CCTV. We more than welcome the review. No incidents have been reported. In three years I have been here there has not been a single incident."

He added: "The council is fully behind us. They don't want pubs closing. There is no reason for any concern."

Police chiefs will present their case against the pub to councillors at the meeting, who will then make a decision on whether changes to the pub's licence are needed.

A West Midlands Police spokeswoman said: "The licensing review is intended to assess the compliance of the CCTV equipment at the premises." The force said it was unable to comment further.
