Woman dies in house fire in Birmingham

A woman has died in a house fire in Birmingham.

The fire happened at a house in Alvechurch Road, in the West Heath area of the city, on Monday morning

Up to 30 firefighters attended the blaze which happened at around 2.25am close to Longbridge.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said crews were called but a woman was confirmed dead at the scene.

A spokeswoman said: "An woman was found inside the property by firefighters, but sadly, when she was brought out to ambulance staff, there was nothing that could be done and she was confirmed dead at the scene."

An investigation is under way into the cause of the fatal blaze.

West Midlands Fire Service tweeted on Monday morning: “Incident in West Heath,is now being scaled down following severe house fire.

"Due to nature of it, crews will in attendance most of this morning and be assisting our fire investigation officer to determine cause of the fire.”
