Man suffers serious burns at Birmingham New Street Station

A man is fighting for his life after being injured when coming into contact with overhead cables at Birmingham's New Street Station.

Police, ambulance and fire crews were called to the railway station at around 8am today.

It after after reports of a man being seriously injured.

British Transport Police said the man had been treated for burns and taken to hospital.

A spokesman said: "Paramedics were called and arrived at the scene and he was treated for burn injuries.

"At this early stage, it is believed he came in contact with the overhead power lines.

"He has been taken to hospital in a serious condition, which is described as life-threatening."

Network Rail advised train passengers of delays to services for around three hours in the aftermath.
