Girl, 15, critical after being hit by car in Birmingham

A teenager has been left in a critical condition after being hit by a car in Birmingham.

The 15-year-old, who was crossing on Leominster Road in Sparkhill, was hit by a white Ford Fiesta yesterday.

Two ambulances and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford rushed to the scene just after 4.30pm.

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “On arrival, ambulance staff found a girl who was in a serious condition following a collision with a car.

“The team of ambulance staff worked to carefully assess and administer specialist trauma care to the girl before she was taken by land ambulance on blue lights to Birmingham Children’s Hospital where, upon arrival, her condition was described as critical.”

The 15-year-old remains in hospital with serious injuries.

A 23-year-old was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and driving over the prescribed limit for drugs.

The man has since been released as investigations continue, police said.

Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said "A teenager has suffered some serious injuries and I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident or has any dash-cam footage and hasn’t already spoken to us to make contact.”
