About 100 homes were affected in Wheeler Street, said West Midlands Fire Service, which sent a rescue boat to the scene.

Severn Trent Water said the burst involved "one of its biggest pipes" - 30ins in diameter.

The road was badly damaged and people have been asked to avoid the area.

Severn Trent apologised to anyone affected and said some customers were already seeing water supplies return.
