Police were called after members of the public heard gunshots at about 11.55pm last night near Broadway Plaza in Birmingham.

A 17-year-old was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

He is being questioned today.

Detective Inspector Jackie Nicholson, from force CID, said: "No-one has been injured and we do not believe that the shots were targeted at anyone, however it is alarming that a firearm is being used by teenagers.

"I would urge anyone with information about firearms to contact us.

"These are deadly weapons and the consequence of even carrying a firearm is a lengthy jail sentence."

Information can be given to police on 101 or anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
