Dudley Council has redeployed staff and vehicles to the programme which has been launched amid the coronavirus outbreak.

The local authority is in the process of identifying vulnerable residents who may be suitable for the deliveries. People who are self-isolating are also eligible.

It comes after neighbouring Wolverhampton Council launched a huge food hub at Aldersley Stadium.

Dudley Council leader Patrick Harley said: "We are currently working in partnership with Dudley Council for Voluntary Service to coordinate food parcel distribution and delivery, getting food and medicine to vulnerable residents and those having to self-isolate.

"Council staff and vehicles from various departments are being redeployed to help to meet the higher levels of need.

"We are in the process of identifying residents with existing health conditions who have been advised by the government to self-isolate so that we can communicate which services are available to them."

The council is also looking for volunteers. Anyone wishing to help should visit dudleycvsreview.org
