The Bovis Homes site at Wombourne (pictured on Monday before the Government announcement) has now been closed for the foreseeable future.

Bovis Homes had been working on the development of up to 90 new homes near Wombourne, on the eastern side of the village.

However, following the tightening of restrictions by the Government due to coronavirus, the housebuilders have made the decision to commence decommissioning activities at all sites.

A limited number of the people had been on the site prior to Monday's announcement, meeting with sub-contractors who had attended work.

After preparing the site for a prolonged period of shutdown, Bovis Homes confirmed the site was now closed for the foreseeable future.

A Bovis Homes spokesperson said: "We were due to start road works on the public highway, Beggars Bush Lane.

"However, following discussions with Staffordshire County Council, it was decided that we would not start at this time.

"Our thoughts remain with all those personally impacted by the outbreak, and the safety, health and wellbeing of our customers, our people and our subcontractors is the top priority.

"While our sites and sales offices are closed, we will stay ‘open for business’ and customers and clients will still be able to contact our teams on the phone and online.

"We will also continue to look to support our supply chain partners during this challenging period and will remain in close communication with them.

"We will be constantly reviewing this situation in line with the Government’s position."
