Kidderminster academy school closed in coronavirus scare
A school in Kidderminster has shut its doors after fears a member of staff had come into contact with someone who travelled to coronavirus-hit Italy.
ContinU Plus Academy was closed today after a staff member came into close contact with a relative who had returned from a trip to Northern Italy and was now in 14 day self-isolation.
School bosses are now taking advice from the Department for Education and the NHS and hope to open later this week.
A statement on the school's website read: "School will be closed today due to a member of staff being in close contact with a family member returning from a trip in Northern Italy who is now in 14 day self isolation as per national guidelines.
"At the CPA we take our duty of care very seriously. We are now taking advice from the DFE and the NHS and hopefully will be able to reopen tomorrow.
"If a deep clean is deemed necessary we may be forced to extend the period of closure. We are committed to our pupils education and will email work if requested. Please use the student help button on our website to contact us today or call 01562 822463.

ContinU Plus, based on Finepoint Way, teaches about 90 pupils aged 11-17, who for a wide variety of reasons have disengaged or experienced difficulties in mainstream education.
It came as a school in Birmingham, Tudor Grange Academy Kinghurst, decided to close for a deep clean after pupils returned from a ski-trip in Italy.
Six pupils and a teacher reportedly began suffering 'flu-like symptoms'.
