Two GP surgeries taken over by health trust

Two GP surgeries have been taken over by an NHS trust in a move bosses say will deliver “closer to home” care to thousands of patients.

Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust, which runs Sandwell and City hospitals, successfully bid to secure a contract to run the services in collaboration with GP partnerships.

The trust will deliver primary care services to patients from both Great Bridge Health Centre and Lyndon Health Centre – formerly known as Parsonage Street – in West Bromwich

Health bosses said the move could result in some patients being treated by consultants in primary care settings away from hospitals and consultant-led clinics opening closer to home.

It is hoped having services run by the same body will help minimise delays and reduce pressure on the trust’s under-pressure A&E departments.

Trust chief executive Toby Lewis said: “The new arrangements are a chance to do, to learn and to build trust. We want to move fast to provide the very best long-term conditions care for children and for adults that redefine traditional home and hospital boundaries.”

Dr Simon Mitchell, executive partner at Your Health Partnership, which will work with the trust to deliver the services, said: “We have a well-established relationship with the trust and believe the opportunity to work together in this way will create lots of exciting new ways to improve the health of the patients whilst continuing to deliver great quality general practice."
