New Cross Hospital worker struck off for 'stealing' cancer drugs to bulk up his body
A pharmacy worker accused of stealing cancer drugs from New Cross Hospital to build up his body has been struck off.
Musclebound Richard Spencer Lissamore allegedly swiped the drugs – abused by some bodybuilders to gain weight – while working as a pharmacy technician for The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust.
The Trust, which runs New Cross, said it referred the matter to the General Pharmaceutical Council, which confirmed Lissamore has been removed from the register.
A hearing of the General Pharmaceutical Council fitness to practise committee heard how Lissamore, 27, also failed to notify the council that in 2015 he was convicted at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court of being in possession of class A drugs cocaine, MDMA and ketamine.
While working at New Cross it was told how Lissamore, who lived in Springfield Road at the time, was suspected of taking quantities of anastrozole, letrozole, tamoxifen and finasteride between January 1, 2015 and September 30, 2015.
It was heard how these type of drugs are ‘misused by some body-builders to help them gain weight.’
The investigation concluded in September that “analysis of transactions was consistent with him creating a record trail intended to cover the removal of the drugs for his own purposes.”
It said: “The Committee finds that it is more likely than not that Mr Lissamore stole one or more of the named drugs from the Trust.” The committee said: “There is no realistic alternative to removal from the register, and that is our decision.”
A spokesman on behalf of The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, said: “We support the decision the council has come to.”
