The sound has been reported by residents all over the town and is said to be heard through the night.

People have taken to social media to debate over what the noise could be, with many hypothesising that its source is near Stourbridge Junction train station.

Writing on Facebook, one woman said she lived almost 1.5 miles away from the station and was still able to hear it.

She said: "Daft question but there is a constant humming noise in Stourbridge at the moment. It is driving me nuts."
