Rotting classroom in Willenhall to be replaced by cabin

Pool Hayes Primary School, in Bridgnorth Grove, Willenhall, said its ageing classroom building currently on site posed a safety hazard due to its leaky roof and rotting floors.

The problem left the school without vital classroom space and so an application was submitted for a new building to provide the facilities needed for lessons.

Walsall Council’s planners approved the plan, which will see a new Portakabin building featuring a classroom, toilets, lobby and storeroom sited next to the playground. The existing building will be demolished.

In the application, agents Portakabin said: “Pool Hayes Primary School currently has an aged single classroom modular building located on their site in Willenhall.

“The building is in a dilapidated condition with rotting floors and leaking roof and is therefore no longer fit for purpose and poses a safety risk. This has left the school without a full classroom space and as a result the school has an urgent requirement to provide that space again, ensuring normal lesson planning.

“The school requires class sizes and children’s learning practices to be restored to a normal level of operation and occupation.

“The council have chosen Portakabin to provide a new single modular classroom located on site in close proximity to the existing dilapidated unit, and as part of the scope of work also to demolish and remove the said dilapidated unit.

“The new accommodation will comprise of one 60m sq classroom, entered from an entrance lobby with two separate toilets and store room.”
