The Perton Action for Safe School Travel (PASST) group were given the cash boost from Perton Parish Council.

The fund will go toward the cost of minibus transport for pupils at Codsall High School.

Youngsters, aged 13 and up, have the choice of paying for a coach pass – or walk to school via a route campaigners say is "dangerous".

More than 3,000 have backed the petition calling on the council to offer free transport, with South Staffordshire MP Gavin Williamson wading into the transport row earlier this year, deeming it an unsafe route.

The route, along Heath House Lane, has previously been branded safe by Staffordshire County Council who conducted a review into it.
