Mary Elliot School in Walsall held a celebratory event on Tuesday to mark the occasion, and children performed for guests.

Teacher Bal Bassi said the event was 'absolutely wonderful'.

She said: "It was amazing, the performances were absolutely wonderful, all students participated and got up on stage.

"The building is now 10 years old but the school was elsewhere before moving to the site.

"It's the only type of school in the borough for secondary age students with complex needs."

The school caters for about 100 students who are aged 11 to 19.

Gill Ogilvie, the parliamentary Labour candidate for Walsall North, attended the celebration.

She said: "The children got up and performed in front of us, some were singing, they were really great."
