Plans for new £5.2 million Cannock school revealed

Poppyfield Primary Academy will be a free school that will be located within The Limes development in Pye Green.

Staffordshire County Council and the Victoria Academies Trust will be working together to build the school which is due to open its doors to nursery and reception children in September 2019.

Nursery and reception places will be offered in the school’s first year and applications for places will be open from September 2018.

After this, the school will grow year on year, reaching full capacity for 210 full time pupils and 26 nursery children by 2025.

Plans for the new school are a response to the growing need for school places and new housing development in the area.

Philip White, Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet member for learning and skills said: “The Victoria Academies Trust has a proven track record in delivering results and an understanding of the challenges that can be faced in developing a brand-new school.

“It has already transformed the Rowley Park Academy in Stafford into a high performing school.

“We are pleased that a sponsor has been appointed that understands the primary school ethos and can work with the local community and above all are excited and passionate about an excellent education for every child.”

Andrew Morrish, Victoria Academies Trust CEO, said: “We are very pleased to be working again with Staffordshire County Council and starting work on this exciting new project.

“The benefits to children and families will be enormous and we shall work in partnership with the community to deliver an impressive school, which will provide exceptional education.”

This will be Victoria Academies Trust’s ninth school in the West Midlands. The closest neighbouring schools are Rowley Park Academy in Stafford and Fibbersley Park Academy in Willenhall.
