West Midlands GCSE results 2016: Full round-up

It was a day of mixed emotions across the Black Country and Staffordshire as teenagers around the region received their GCSE results. Find out how your local school fared here.

Wolverhampton

Codsall High School

At Codsall High School 22% of students got not just one A, but at least three As or A*s.

Meanwhile 62% managed A* to C in English and maths - results that pleased executive headteacher Alun Harding.

He said: "I'm delighted that the hard work has paid off for so many students, enabling them to have reached the standard to enter our 6th form."

North East Wolverhampton Academy

47% achieved A*- C grades in Maths and English - a 15% increase on last year's results.

Colton Hills Community School

Colton Hills Community School in Wolverhampton has managed a 10% increase in the proportion of students achieving at least a C in maths and English - 56% of students got the grades this year.

Meanwhile one in five achieved the English Baccalaureate.

Tettenhall College

More than a third of grades at independent Tettenhall College in Wolverhampton were A star or A, while more than two thirds managed five A star to Cs, including maths and English.

St Edmund's Catholic Academy

38% of entries were between A star and B, while 16% were either A star or A.

Highfields School

A total of 75% of students achieved five A*-C grades, including English and Mathematics, up from 73% last year, with 52% achieving at least one A-star or A grade - a rise of 2%.

A total of 28% achieved three A* or A grades, up from 24% last year.

Wolverhampton Girls' High

A remarkable 81% of entries from the grammar school were awarded A/A* and 73% of students achieved 8 or more A or A* grades.

Trudi Young, Headteacher, said: "I am incredibly proud of all of each of our students personal achievements and they should be congratulated for achieving such fantastic results."

Smestow School

The school's Progress 8 score, which measures the progress of students between Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 4 across eight key subjects, was +0.25.

Headmaster at the Castlecroft school, Martyn Morgan, said: "In an ever-changing landscape we are delighted to have extremely positive Progress 8 scores for our GCSE students this year.

"It is a pleasure to see our results improve this year. Once again our students are to be congratulated for their achievements."

Happy with her GCSE results Grace Mainwaring, 16, of Wolverhampton, at Smestow School, Wolverhampton.

The Royal School

24% of students attained five A*/A at the Royal School, Wolverhampton, with the highest performances in modern foreign languages and sciences.

Individual highlights include Amaan Yasin with nine A* grades.

Team GB Junior gymnast Joshua Nathan achieved five As, one B and one C.

Dudley

Redhill School, Stourbridge

88% of Redhill pupils leave with a grade C or better in English and 71% of pupils achieved at least a grade C in mathematics.

Rebecca Csondor, the top achieving girl, gained eleven A*s and two A grades.

Headteacher, Stephen Dunster, said: "A large number of students have achieved top grades in their subjects and are now going onto the courses they have chosen."

Bishop Milner Catholic School

Year 11 students achieved 68% five or more A* to C Grades (including English and Mathematics), with 76% achieving five or more A* to C Grades overall.

Principal Steve Haywood, said: "Along with support from Bishop Milner staff and parents, such outstanding results are testament to the hard work of students and are thoroughly deserved. "

Ellowes Hall Sports College

Progress 8 score of +0.59

The performance measure increasingly being used by schools indicates progress between Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 4 across eight key subjects.

Crestwood School

10% improvement, from 36% A*-Cs (including English and Maths) last year, to 46% this year.

Summerhill School, Kingswinford

The school thanked staff and parents for their hard work that led to more than 70% of students achieving 'top' GCSE grades.

Old Swinford Hospital School

The percentage of results awarded at A* to C grades at Old Swinford Hospital in five or more subjects was 93.06%.

Headmaster Paul Kilbride, said: "We are all absolutely delighted with the boys' GCSE results."

Elmfield Rudolf Steiner School, Dudley

At Elmfield Rudolf Steiner School in Stourbridge two thirds of final year students are leaving with five or more A* to C GCSEs including English and maths.

Sandwell

St Michael's Church of England High School, Rowley Regis

Results at St Michael's saw 53% manage five or more GCSEs including maths and English.

Special mentions for Emily Gibbons (five A*s and five As) Melissa Cottrell (five A*s and five As) Thomas Bailey (four A*s and three As) and Emily Carmichael (three A*s and eight As).

The ACE academy, Tipton

Mr Kelay, Associate Headteacher at the academy, said: "I'd like to express my congratulations to all the students at the ACE Academy.

"The hard work and dedication shown by all the students and staff along with the support shown by their parents has led to these results."

Q3 Academy

It was a day to remember for the Smith family, with twins Charlotte and Lauren racking up an incredibly 18 A*s between them.

The pair were part of Q3 Academy's cohort that managed the school's highest ever proportion of A* and A grades.

Grace Academy

The number of students at Grace Academy Darlaston who managed an A* or A rose by 26% this year to more than 61%.

Star student, Kiran Kaur, said: "I feel relieved and really happy. I got the results I was expecting, an A* in Biology and four As."

Wood Green Academy, Wednesbury

Of all GCSE entries, 15% were graded at A* or A.

Impressively 28 of the A*s came from just five students - Abigael Glover, Britanie Boyd, Masie Griffiths, Kate Southern and Hruthik Ketepalli.

Sandwell Academy

Students at Sandwell Academy beat several school records including 80% achieved English and Maths, 79% achieved five A* to C including English and maths, 39% achieved the English Baccalaureate.

Bristnall Hall Academy, Oldbury

The proportion of Bristnall Hall pupils gaining five or more A*to C grades including English and Mathematics is 56% - up by 5% from 2015.

Principal, Vince Green said: "The strong results that our young people have achieved are thoroughly well deserved after all of their hard work along with that of the outstanding team of staff at Bristnall Hall."

Stuart Bathurst Catholic High School, Wednesbury

61% gained the benchmark five A*-C GCSEs, including maths and English.

Assistand headteacher Mr Holder said: "There have been some excellent student performances with Thomas Wistance and Priya Singh both gaining six A* and three A grades and Eleanor Hodgson achieving one A* and eight A grades."

Oldbury Academy

In both English and Maths, 65% of students achieved an A*-C, a particularly significant improvement of over 10% from last year in Maths.

Headteacher Phil Shackleton, said: "Levels of progress have improved in English and Maths, whilst the percentage of students achieving both these key qualifications is on an upward trend."

Ormiston Forge Academy, Cradley Heath

Ormiston Forge Academy in Cradley Heath has increased its number benchmark passes by 9% in just three years.

This year 53% of students managed five A*-Cs compared to just 44% in 2013.

Walsall

Barr Beacon School, Aldridge

A record number of pupils achieved A* or A grades at Barr Beacon, including 25% of maths students who gained at least an A.

Meanwhile 79% of pupils achieved a C or better in both English and maths.

Hydesville Tower School

Of Hydesville Tower School's year 11 students, 96% achieved five or more A* to C grades, with 34% of the school's results either A* or A.

Headmaster Mr McGinnes said: ""Many congratulations to the class of 2016.

"These results are fabulous and testament to the hard work our pupils have put in throughout their entire school career at Hydesville."

Ormiston Shelfield Community Academy, Pelsall

Staff at Ormiston Shelfield Community Academy in Pelsall highlighted the improvement in the number of A* and A grades at the school, as well as the boost in attainment for special educational needs students.

Pool Hayes Academy, Willenhall

A total of 57% of pupils managed five or more GCSEs including English and maths, which made principal Luke Baker delighted.

He said: "Not only have our headline figures improved massively, but there are numerous success stories behind those figures which are testament to the tremendous hard work that has gone on all year by our pupils and their teachers."

Willenhall E-ACT Academy

Willenhall E-ACT Academy improved its benchmark five A* to Cs including maths and English by almost 10%.

Meanwhile every French, Spanish and IT student managed a grade C or higher.

St Thomas More Catholic School, Willenhall

The Willenhall school received strong results with students gaining A* to C grades including 81% in German, 77% in English Literature, and 90.5% in D.T. (Resistant Materials).

Bloxwich Academy

In 2015 only 26% of pupils achieved a grade C in English. This year it was 50%.

The school was formerly known as Mirus Academy.

Headteacher, Andy Seager, said: "Results have dramatically improved over just 12 months because the culture and ethos at Bloxwich Academy has changed completely."

Queen Mary's Grammar

Stand-out student was Sam Garbett who achieved 11 A*s which included ICT taken in Year 9 and maths taken in Year 10.

Sam is staying on at QMGS to take A-levels in Physics, Economics, Maths and Further Maths.

Shire Oak Academy, Walsall Wood

More than 150 students are expected to enrol at the academy in September for A-level studies.

It comes after 60% of students at the Walsall Wood school achieved at least a C in both English and Maths, with 100% of students leaving the academy with at least 1 GCSE or equivalent.

Aldridge School

The Aldridge School has reported a "huge" increase in A* grades overall, particularly in Maths and Sciences.

The school has also increased the percentage of students achieving A*-C in English and Maths to more than 66%.

Staffordshire

Lichfield Cathedral School

All but 3% of students at private Lichfield Cathedral School managed at least five A* to C GCSEs.

Meanwhile 40% of entries were either A* or A - results that headteacher Susan Hannam described as "exceptional."

She said: "I am so proud of everyone for what they have achieved - they thoroughly deserve these outstanding results."

Thomas Alleyne's High School, Uttoxeter

75% of students achieved at least five A* to C grades.

Headteacher Mrs Rudge thanked staff, students, parents and governors for all "pulling together for the success."

Cannock Chase High School

Cannock Chase High School had its best ever results with its five A*-C pass rate up from 56% to 62%.

Headteacher, Mr Iain Turnbull, said: "Staff and students have worked exceptionally hard to achieve these positive results."

Sir Graham Balfour School, Stafford

26% of all grades achieved were either A* or A at Sir Graham Balfour in Stafford.

In all 68% of students achieved five A*-C grades including English, Maths and Science at GCSE.

Mrs Lesley Beck, Headteacher, said: "We are so proud that the vast majority of students, regardless of their starting points, have made excellent progress, ensuring that they will all go on to the destination of their choice, whether it is our sixth form, college or an apprenticeship."

Abbots Bromley School

35% of all papers achieved an A or better, while every student managed at least five A* to Cs.

Francesca Hardwick and MAdison Seed stood out with 20 A*s and three As between them.

The school's executive head, Victoria Musgrave, said: "The hard work of our students, staff and wonderfully supportive parents has been justly rewarded and I am truly delighted with what has been achieved today."

Chase Terrace Technology College

74% of students achieved a high grade (C or better) in English Language while 77% achieved at this level in Maths.

Dr. Stuart Jones, the school's Headteacher, said: "I am delighted for our students, who have worked so hard for these excellent results and also for their parents and the staff and governors here.

Kinver High School

86% of pupils scored English Language C and above, and 93% scored Grade C or above in English Literature.

Ounsdale High School, Wombourne

Individual students highlights included Natasha Baldmaston and Kathryn Moore who each picked up nine A*/A s

Weston Road Academy, Stafford

The Academy in Stafford has achieved a 13% increase on last year's results with 64% of pupils achieving A* - C in English and Maths whilst 77% achieved 5 A-star - C grades.

Blessed William, Stafford

60% of students at the Stafford school achieved A*-C in English and mathematics, with 27% of students attaining three or more A* - A.

Stafford Grammar

Four students at Stafford Grammar achieved A*s across the board.

Claudia Ballinger, Omar Haque, Winifred Lee and Meera Mahesh were all awarded 10 of the top grades.

Meanwhile 14 of the private school's 59 students achieved all A* or A grades.

Maple Hayes Dyslexia School, near Lichfield

All pupils at Maple Hayes Dyslexia School achieved GCSE English with 14% gaining a C grade or above.

24% of pupils at the school scooped five A*-C grades, an exceptional achievement as many of them first entered the school unable to read or write.

Dr Daryl Brown, headteacher at Maple Hayes Dyslexia School, said: "Today's results have been astounding and are a testament to the hard work of our pupils and staff."

Cardinal Griffin Catholic College, Cannock

71% of students achieved five or more GCSE at grades A*- C, including English and Mathematics.

Head teacher, Michael Burrowes, said: "We are delighted for the students and we congratulate them all on their success."

Cheslyn Hay Sport and Community High

64% of students have achieved 5 GCSEs A*-C, for the fourth consecutive year.

Overall the school's pass rate is 100% with 99.6% of students gaining 5A*-G.

21 subject areas gained a 100% pass rate.

King Edward VI High School, Stafford

More than 30% of students achieved A* - A grades and 78% of students achieved grade C and above.

Emma Clarke finished Year 11 with 10 straight A*s.

Walton High School, Stafford

76% of students achieved 5 A* - C including English and Maths.

And more than half of the total papers at the south Stafford school have been awarded the very top grades of A*, A and B.

Matthew Perrins was the school's top performer with 12 A*s.

Kingsmead School, Hednesford

Bosses at the Hednesford school say large numbers of students beat their aspirational targets.

Notable achievers include Dylan Ottey (8A* 3A), Josh Lilly (6A*6A) and Abi Malcolm (6A*6A.)

St Dominic's High School for Girls, Brewood

All pupils at St Dominic's High School for Girls, Brewood, scored at least five subjects with grades between A* and C.

And 39 per cent of the total GCSEs achieved at the school were graded A* or A.

Wyre Forest

Baxter College, Kidderminster

The school has improved on its benchmark five or more A* to C results as well as the amount of A* or A students.

Principal Tim Waites said he was delighted that hard work had paid off.

Stourport High School

The school managed an average improvement of a third of a grade compared to last year.

Principal Chris King was delighted.

He said: "Congratulations to all our students for their hard work and to our staff, parents and carers for the support they gave our students in ensuring they gained their best possible grades."

Wolverley CE Secondary School. Kidderminster

The number of students achieving C or above in English and maths is more than 10% higher than last year.

King Charles I, Kidderminster

70% of students at King Charles I in Kidderminster achieved achieving five or more A*-C grades including English and maths.

Headteacher, Stephen Brownlow, said: "These are, by some distance, the best GCSE results the school has ever achieved."
