The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) carried out an independent investigation following a referral from West Midlands Police relating to an incident in May 2020.

PC Samuel Huntbach, 28, based at Digbeth Police Station, has been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and is due to appear at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court on June 1.

A complaint from the subject of the arrest, who suffered a fractured ankle, was also referred.

During the investigation, which concluded in February, investigators spoke to witnesses and examined CCTV and body-worn camera footage.

A file of evidence was referred to the Crown Prosecution Service, which has authorised charges.
