JAILED: Thief spotted rummaging through car boot
A repeat thief from Wolverhampton has been jailed as police aim to combat vehicle crime across the city.
Badr Alreemi was spotted rummaging through a car boot, parked on the Penn Road, on January 15.
He was arrested by officers – and subsequent enquiries also identified him using a bank card stolen from a van on his street the previous day.
The 36-year-old, of Oaklands Road, in Pennfields, admitted two counts of theft from a motor vehicle, fraud and an unrelated public decency matter.
He was sentenced to seven months in jail at Wolverhampton Magistrates' Court on January 17.
It comes after West Midlands Police also took action to tackle a spike in attempted car break-ins in the Tettenhall area, towards the end of last year.
A 47-year-old man – who was on licence from custody – was identified via CCTV and he admitted three counts of vehicle interference, leading him to be sent back to prison.
A spokesman for the force said: "Enquiries around five other alleged offences in the area are ongoing.
"We have a vehicle crime initiative team which helped reduce thefts by 24 per cent and locate almost 200 stolen motors in just 12 months."
