CCTV appeal following armed robberies near West Bromwich tram stops

Detectives investigating two armed robberies on the same day near tram stops in West Bromwich have released a CCTV appeal to trace a man.

Five men have already been arrested following the robberies - which included one of the victims being hit in the face with a handgun.

British Transport Police have now issued a CCTV image of another man officers wish to speak with in connection with the violent thefts.

In the first attack, a 19-year-old man was surrounded by six young men, who then assaulted him and hit him in the face with the gun.

His mobile phone was taken along with bank cards and cash.

A knife and a machete were brandished during the incident which happened at around 1pm on November 19.

It happened on the pathway between West Bromwich Central tram stop and Dartmouth Street tram shop.

The victim was taken to hospital where he was treated for concussion.

Shortly afterwards, on the same day, near to Lodge Road West Midlands Metro stop, a 26-year-old man and a 30-year-old man were also approached by six young men.

They threatened to stab the pair and then robbed them of their mobile phones and a video game, said British Transport Police.

Five men, all aged between 16 and 21, have been released on bail while an investigation continues.

The force stepped up patrols in the area following the robberies.

Police have urged anyone who recognises the man to come forward.
