Boy, 16, arrested over police officer attack which shut Wolverhampton Ring Road

Two firearms suspects have been arrested after two police officers and a member of the public were assaulted on Wolverhampton's ring road.

The officers were injured during a struggle when they stopped a moped on Ring Road St David's after seeing two people acting suspiciously at around 4.30pm on Sunday

One police officer received injuries to his arm and shoulder while another received injuries to his face as the suspects attempted to fight them off.

Neither of the officers were seriously injured.

A member of the public, a man in his 50s, was punched in the face as he attempted to help the officers but was only slightly injured, according to West Midlands Police.

Two suspects, a 16-year-old boy and a 36-year-old man, were arrested in the early hours of this morning.

An area of Ring Road St David's, with the junction of Wednesfield Road near the city's train station, was cordoned off at around 6pm on Sunday following the incident. A police helicopter was also seen and heard in the area during the search.

A spokesman from West Midlands Police said: "A 16-year-old boy and 36-year old man were arrested in the early hours of Monday morning from their home address on suspicion of assault and firearms offences.

"They remain in police custody today."
