A member of the public helped police detain a driver after a chase through Wolverhampton and Willenhall

The chase began on the A460 Cannock Road, after the vehicle rammed a police car and then drove off at speed towards Wolverhampton on Saturday.

The driver was then see by another police patrol and failed to stop before continuing on to Willenhall.

Police say the driver then dumped the car and ran off on foot – before a member of the public, driving a green Ford helped officers detain the male driver.

The man has now been arrested in connection with the incident.

But officers are keen to find the Good Samaritan in the green Ford vehicle to thank him for their help.

Taking to social media, police said: "We have today had a pursuit with a vehicle on the A460 Cannock Road whereby the vehicle rammed a police car and drove off at speed into Wolverhampton. Other patrols located the vehicle whereby it again failed to stop.

"The offending driver has then decamped and ran off. Officers have detained the male with help from a member of the public whom was driving a Ford (Green) in the Willenhall area.

"We would like to know whom this member of the public is so that we can personally thank him.

"The offending driver was arrested for a variety of offences and is awaiting interview in custody."
