Pair arrested after trouble forces closure of Bilston street

Two men were arrested after violence flared in a street in Bilston in front of stunned onlookers.

Police were called to the A41 Oxford Street at around 5pm on Saturday after reports of trouble.

Officers found an injured man, aged in his 30s, with cuts to his head.

Oxford Street was closed off by the island at the Black Country Route towards Gozzard Street.

A cordon was placed close to the Express Superstore off licence and Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

At least two police cars and a police van attended alongside crews from West Midlands Ambulance Service.

One onlooker, who saw the incident from a passing bus, described on Facebook seeing the injured man on the floor.

The injured man was taken to hospital to be treated for his injuries. He was later arrested on suspicion of affray.

He remained in police custody on Sunday.

A 27-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of wounding.

West Midlands Police confirmed he also remained in police custody.

A force spokeswoman said: "CCTV is being reviewed and investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances around the incident."
