Arrest after imitation firearm found in Burntwood

A man has been arrested after armed police rushed to Burntwood following reports of a firearm in the area.

Armed officers from Staffordshire Police were deployed at around 10.15am on Saturday in Lichfield Road where an imitation handgun was discovered.

A Birmingham man, aged 20, has been arrested on suspicion of being in possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence and remains in custody for questioning.

Staffordshire Police is now appealing for witnesses with any further information about the incident to contact them.

A spokesman for Staffordshire Police said: "The imitation firearm has been seized and officers would like to reassure members of the local community that there is no risk to their safety.

"Neighbourhood officers will be increasing their patrols in the area for the rest of the day to provide reassurance and to help gather information about the incident."
