Man stabbed in targeted attack outside Lye mosque
A man was stabbed outside a Lye mosque in what police believe was a targeted attack.
Two men attacked the man, in his 50s, outside the mosque on Talbot Street around 6pm yesterday.
The victim suffered a cut to his head but his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
The attackers fled the scene in a car while the victim was taken to hospital.
West Midlands Police has urged anyone with information to come forward.
A West Midlands Police spokesman said: "Police were called just before 6pm on Wednesday to reports that a man had been attacked by two men outside a mosque on Talbot Street , Lye.
"The victim, in his 50s, is believed to have been struck on the head with a knife, leaving him with a cut which is not believed to be life-threatening.
"The attackers then left the scene in a car. The victim has been taken to hospital.
"No arrests have been made, but at this stage of the investigation it is believed to have been a targeted attack.
"Anyone with information has been asked to contact police via Live Chat at west-midlands.police.uk between 8am and midnight, or via 101 anytime.
"Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman added: "We were called to Talbot Street, Lye at 5.55pm last night. An ambulance, paramedic officer, critical care car and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford with a MERIT trauma doctor on board attended.
"One man sustained minor injuries and was taken by land ambulance to hospital for further checks."
