Woman bailed after death of boy, 10, found unwell in caravan

A woman who was arrested on suspicion of neglect after a 10-year-old boy died after being found in a caravan has been released on police bail.

Police and paramedics were called to in Blossomville Way, in the Acocks Green area of Birmingham, at 7.25am on Thursday, following reports that a child was unconscious.

Two ambulances, a paramedic officer and the Midlands Air Ambulance Critical Care Car were sent to the scene and the boy was found in a critical condition.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said he was given specialist trauma care before being transported to the city's Heartlands Hospital, where he died at 8.20am.

A 44-year-old woman, from Acocks Green, was arrested on suspicion of child neglect and has since been released on bail while inquiries continue, the force said.

Detectives are treating the boy's death as unexplained and a post-mortem examination is due to take place.

Before the woman was arrested, Detective Inspector Joe Davenport said: "This is a truly tragic incident in which a young boy has been found dead.

"We understand he had some underlying health issues and was admitted to hospital recently.

"We've launched an inquiry to understand what happened in the days leading up to his death and to determine if any factors have contributed to his death."
