Man charged over Cannock axe incident

A man has been charged by police after a person was spotted carrying an axe through Cannock.

Officers were called to Cannock Wood Street at around 4.40pm on Saturday.

Niall Moody, 33 and from Rugeley, was then arrested in Armitage on Sunday.

Armed police and a dog unit were sent to Rugeley Road to detain him.

Moody has today been charged with possessing a weapon in a public place.

He has been released on conditional bail and is due to appear at Cannock Magistrates’ Court in September.
