Armed police were in Armitage on Sunday

Armed officers were sent to Rugeley Road in Armitage this afternoon and arrested a 33-year-old man over an incident in Cannock yesterday.

The man, from the Rugeley area, was arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill, Staffordshire Police said.

The force has not said what is believed to have happened during Saturday's incident.

A witness reported seeing six police cars in Armitage, including armed officers and a dog unit, as the man was arrested.

A spokesman for Staffordshire Police said: "We want to reassure people living locally as the attendance and arrest led to some disruption on local roads."
