There has been a rise of recorded distraction burglary incidents in the Dudley borough recently, according to police.

A spokesman said: "We are asking our communities to be vigilant at this time and to keep a look out for family, friends and neighbours.

"Distraction burglars will often dress as officials to gain trust in to somebody's home or will often ask for money for a taxi to visit a family member in hospital or other.

"If this is the case and you don't know the caller, always ask to see their identification.

"Please ensure all doors, windows are secure and not to let strangers in to the property."
