A woman was left needing surgery after being attacked by a dog on a Black Country street.

The 23-year-old victim was left with a huge gash in her upper arm after being bitten by the dog in Coseley on Sunday.

She was taken by ambulance to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham where she was set to have at least one operation this week.

The dog involved has since been put down and police are investigating the incident, which happened in Rainbow Street shortly after midday.

The victim has a 10-month-old daughter but the baby wasn't with her when the attack happened.10-

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "Police were called after a woman was bitten by a dog on a lead on Rainbow Street, Coseley around midday on Sunday.

"The 23-year-old required surgery to her arm.

"The dog was put down by the owner on the same day.

"Enquiries are on-going."
