Murder arrests as man dies three days after Darlaston stabbing

A 21-year-old man has died three days after being stabbed during a fight outside a Black Country pub.

Police are treating the death as murder and have arrested two 18-year-old male suspects.

The man, who has not yet been named, was stabbed during a fight outside Gabba's Bar, the old Herbert's Park Tavern, in Darlaston at around 11pm on Wednesday.

He was taken to hospital in a critical condition but died in hospital on Saturday, police confirmed today.

Detective Inspector Caroline Corfield, from the West Midlands Police homicide team, urged anyone who was in the Forge Road or Wolverhampton Street area on Wednesday evening to get in contact.

“Our thoughts are with the family of the man who sadly died and we will have specialist officers supporting them at this distressing time," she said.

“A young man has sadly lost his life, and we’re working to establish the circumstances around his death.

“The fight took place near to Gabba’s bar, which is also known as Herbert’s Park Tavern and we want to speak to everyone in the area at the time as we believe they could hold vital information about what happened in the moments leading up to this man’s death.

“CCTV is being reviewed and we continue to appeal to anyone with information, no matter how insignificant it may seem to them, to get in touch, as it could be vital to our investigation."

The two teenage suspects were being questioned in custody on Sunday afternoon as a post mortem was due to take place.

Two other men arrested in relation to the attack have been released by police.

A 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder when he handed himself into police on Friday but has since been released on police bail.

And a 21-year-old man who was arrested at the scene on suspicion of affray has been released while enquiries continue.
