'I thought he was going to kill me': Walsall pensioner beaten up while gardening
A great-grandfather was knocked unconscious by a man in an attack while he was gardening.
Les Robinson, 82, was in his Willenhall back garden laying turf when a man jumped over his fence and started raining punches down on his face.
The former Walsall Council worker said he "blacked out" and when he woke up the man was stood over him and hit him with his own gardening shears.
Mr Robinson said his attacker shouted "I'll kill you" and that he did think he would be killed by him.
After the attack Mr Robinson was left with two black eyes and bruising down his nose.
He said the incident began when he saw the attacker "stood staring", before the man shouted "what are you looking at?"
"Then he came over the fence and I was lying down doing some gardening and he just punched me on the nose and started threatening me
"I blacked out when he hit me two or three times," said Mr Robinson.
"He picked up some garden shears and hit me with it on the arm and threatened to kill me.
"I managed to get back on my feet with blood on my face and elbow and then he went back over the fence.
"It was frightening, horrendous, I thought he is really going to kill me here."
Mr Robinson worked as an area supervisor for Walsall Council for 31 years and before that was in the Air Force for three years as a bomb armourer.
"I've got an exemplary track record, I served in the Air Force as bomb armourer," he added.
"I've never sworn at anyone or attacked anyone. I've lived a Christian life."
Police are investigating an assault of an 82-year-old man on Pooles Lane in the Willenhall area of Walsall just before 11am on July 16.
