Villa fans top West Midlands list for racism arrests

Aston Villa fans topped a West Midlands list for the most football-related arrests involving racism over a three-year period, new figures show.

In total Aston Villa fans were arrested a total of seven times between 2014/15 to 2017/18 for offences surrounding racism.

Albion was the club which came second in the list with six of their fans arrested over that time period.

Wolves and Birmingham fans came a joint-third with four arrests per club.

There was no arrests reported for Walsall while Coventry came fifth in the list with two arrests.

Nationally, Manchester United fans topped the list with 27 arrests carried out on fans.

Leeds and Millwall were in joint-second with 15 arrests followed by Leicester on 14 and Chelsea on 13.

Villa came 17th in total on par with Liverpool and Newcastle fans at seven arrests.

That was one more arrest than for England fans in general, with six arrests carried out on England fans.

The findings were revealed following Freedom Of Information requests submitted to police forces around the country.
