An 80-year-old woman has been charged with murdering her husband at their bungalow near Cannock.

Mavis Eccleston appeared in court last week over the death of her husband Kenneth, who was also known as Dennis.

Mr Eccleston, 81, was found dead in Raven Close, Huntington, in February 2018, sending shockwaves through the quiet neighbourhood.

His wife pleaded not guilty to murder at Stafford Crown Court, where she was granted conditional bail. She is due to appear in court again in August.

Neighbours spoke of their shock following the pensioner’s death.

A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: “An 80-year-old Cannock woman has appeared in court charged with the murder of her husband.

“Mavis Eccleston, who is charged with the murder of Kenneth Eccleston, who was also known as Dennis, on February 20, 2018 at an address in Huntington, Cannock, pleaded not guilty.

“She was granted conditional bail. Mr Eccleston was 81 at the time of the alleged offence. The trial has been set for September 2 at Stafford Crown Court, with a pre-trial preliminary hearing on August 5.”
