Brierley Hill cricket club hit by arson attack
A cricket club in Brierley Hill went up in flames after an arson attack and nearby garages were damaged.
The pavilion at the Oldswinford and Stourbridge Social Cricket Club on Norwood Road was set on fire on Sunday evening, and the flames caused "significant damage".
Heat from the fire spread to five domestic garages nearby and caused damage, according to West Midlands Fire Service.
A spokesman said: "We were called at 6.32pm on Sunday evening.
"It was a 999 call, the address given was Stourbridge Cricket Club.
"We sent three crews, 13 firefighters in total.
"The stop message came in an hour later at 7.30pm which says one metal container unit which contained cricket equipment was totally destroyed by the fire.
"The heat from the fire spread to a row of five domestic garages.
"It was believed to have been started deliberately."
Brierley Hill Police tweeted on Sunday saying: "There has been an incident this evening involving arson to cricket premises in Brockmoor.
"Unknown offenders have broke into the cricket pavilion and have set fire to the furniture within.
"If you have any information regarding any offenders, please report online or via 101."
A West Midlands Police alert was shared on Sunday which said: "This evening there has been an incident involving arson in the area.
"Offenders have broke into a cricket pavilion within the Brockmoor area and have set fire to various pieces of furniture, causing significant damage to the building."
